Tashlich on the Beach

On Rosh Hashanah afternoon, we gather on the beach for Tashlich, an ancient ceremony in which our sins are symbolically cast into the sea.    The weather is always great as over 400 of us – congregants and friends – come together to say farewell to the old year and usher in the new one.

One year, we wrote our failings down on paper and a scuba diver emerged from the water to bear them away.  Another year, we wrote on edible newsprint and a goat came down the shore to gobble up our mistakes.  We’ve built long wall of sand on which to write our sins and then let the sea carry them away, and had a drone lift up from our midst carrying aloft the habits we wished to change.
